Speakers:

Simone Atangane Bekono

(1991) graduated from Creative Writing ArtEZ in 2016 with a collection of poems and letters titled ‘hoe de eerste vonken zichtbaar waren’, which was reprinted at Wintertuin Uitgeverij in collaboration with Lebowski Publishers. She published in De Optimist, Samplekanon and De Gids and performed during the de Nacht van de Poezie, Wintertuin Festival and Read my World. Simone was selected for the Slow Writing Lab and for CELA, a development process for writers and translators in six European countries. One of her stories appeared in Zwart, an anthology of Afro-European literature from de Lage Landen. In 2018, ‘hoe de eerste vonken zichtbaar waren’ was awarded the Poetry debut prize for poetry Aan Zee and Simone took part in the Paris residence of Flemish-Dutch House deBuren. Throughout 2019 she is writer in residence at Vooruit in Ghent. She is currently working on a novel that will be published by Lebowski. Simone is in a talent development process of De Nieuwe Oost | Winter garden.

 

Dewi de Nijs Bik

(1990) has conducted in-depth interviews since 2012 for Moesson, the Dutch-Indonesian monthly. During her master’s degree in Dutch and Comparative Literature she researched political commitment and the role of affect in modern literature. At the moment she is completing her studies at the Creative Writing School in Amsterdam. Her prose and poetry has appeared in Extaze, on the programme Hard//hoofd (Hard//head) and in the collection of the Turing Poetry Competition 2017.

Bob Vanden Broeck

(1988) writes poetry. Bob's poetry appeared in, among others, Het Liegend Konijnt, DW B and Deus Ex Machina. In 2017 he took part in the Paris residence of Flemish-Dutch house (for culture and debate), deBuren. In addition, he writes texts on contemporary art and poetry for rekto:verso and De Reactor. He has worked onnational and international exhibition catalogs. Vanden Broeck is also in the talent development trajectory of De Nieuwe Oost | Wintertuin.
